Hello and Welcome to the Tiki 46 website.

This is the home for the owners of the James Wharram designed Tiki 46 catamaran. The Tiki 46 is the flagship of the Tiki designs which began in 1982 with the award winning Tiki 21.    The Tiki concept evolved from the Classic designs and is characterized by clean lines and double-ended symmetrical V'd hulls.

The Tiki hulls with their shallow keels and skeg protected rudders allow simple and safe beaching when needed for maintenance. Almost 8 feet of overhangs and the wide flare of the hulls provide an amazing amount of buoyancy which directly translates into safety in heavy seas.  This hull form is fast, efficient and  safe.

The Tiki 46 also stays true to Wharram's use of open deck space for low windage while still providing a deck pod with a bunk for the off-watch crew and a large cockpit for very comfortable living whether off-shore or in harbor. The hulls are joined by flexible beam connections which are lashed to the hulls with synthetic cord allowing for flexion between the hulls. The motion of the Tiki 46 underway is something that will bring a smile to your face, smooth yet incredibly alive.

There are many features on this boat that address comfort and safety at the same time, like the easy open deck access, hatches that open to the centerline keeping bodies well aboard. The schooner rig splits the sail plan into smaller, easier managed sails and keeps the center of effort low. Sail handling is in the center of the boat and the Tiki Wing Sail design decreases mast and sail turbulence with the short gaffs providing twist control and the wide sheet base providing camber control.

The design provides 3 private cabins with large, comfortable bunks, showers, toilets  as well as a galley and seating space for plenty of friends.                                                                     Here are the numbers:

If you want to know anything specifically about the Tiki 46, view photos, read logs, or contact owners then this is the place for you. My name is Clifton Thompson and I am building Tiki 46 # 28 in Winston Salem, North Carolina USA. Her name is Sangraal which is an ancient Celtic term for the Holy Grail which I interpret as  "Cherished Vessel." Sangraal will become my home as I follow my dreams around the globe. You can follow my progress here .

I created this web site to share my passion of building, sailing and living aboard Sangraal. I want to encourage you to live your dreams and if part of your dream is building a Wharram catamaran then you might find ways to save money, time, and effort here on this site.  Many people have helped me with my build and I'd like you to learn from all of our experiences.

I do not provide plan support nor do we provide or encourage any design modifications. The suitability of any modifications needs to be discussed with James Wharram Designs.

Please feel free to browse through the website using the links at the top of the page.
